It was pretty good, especially for Gonzo, though if I'm going to watch a Gonzo animation I want it to be Last Exile . The first series, not that garbage second one which I refuse to acknwlege as canon...

It is. I'd say the only other show that I've seen which is as underrated as Blue Submarine No. 6 is Broken Blade.

That is exactly what you should do.

The second series involves a bunch of little girls (from ages 10 through 17) leading the world through a series of events that make no sense. It also keeps hinting that these main characters want to get it on with each other at every turn. It's ridiculous fan-service. Dio and Tatiana play major roles in it, but other than that the rest of the old characters only make token appearances at the end.

The ship designs are utterly moronic (the Silvana's successor has guns that are as big as it, but it can somehow retract them...it's also a submarine), a stark contrast to the very pargmatic and logical design of those in the original. The combat also exists entirely of artillery spam, with no movements. It's lame.

The new music is literally Pirates of the Caribbean's theme with a couple chords changed. The rest is re-hashed from the original series.

Really, the whole thing is just disappointing. The only good episode was the middle one, and that's because it was a recap of the first series even featuring the original intro/outro.

That's depressing. I've only seen the first episode and wasn't ready to judge the series based on that alone.

As long as the story/plot/action is good enough, I can overlook the fan service (I'm looking at you Highschool of the Dead) but everything else you're describing sounds pretty dreadful. Especially if the fan service is 10-17? That's...creepy as hell.

It was creepy as hell. All of the actual adults in the story are bit players except Luscinia, and he's the bad guy. He's also the only male of any importance. It's really, heavily lopsided toward little girls, because moe is in and real anime is out (how I long for more anime like Legend of the Galactic Heroes ).

Also, their little air bike thing has better range than a vanship. Part of what made the original so awesome is that it felt like a real place, with real physics, and while they didn't set it up with exposition there were little things like having to mine for fuel, account for the amount of fuel, having to account for purity of fuel, and having to get engine RPMs over a certain level to generate lift, etc. that had impacts on the progression of the story. There is none of that background detail in Fam- The Silver Wing.

I mean, maybe I'm over-reacting, but I don't think so. You are certainly more than welcome to watch it and not just take my word for it, but I don't think it's worth the time for any true fan of the original.
